I love love love Spring! It is the season for two of my most favorite things…baby chicks and gardening! Speaking of gardening, we started some of our seeds this week. Currently, I am planning on planting enough for our family, for the Farmer’s blessing box, and to supplement the chickens. It is a bit ambitious, but I am hoping to get it all started and keep it alive for the Spring and Summer. As you can see I am going to have some obstacles or should I just say puppies that are going to make that challenging. This stinker already ran off with one of my seeded pots.

We tried our school lessons outside this week and yap it took a little bit longer with some expected interruptions….the furry kind. Bonnie likes to make sure she does not go unnoticed.

Oh, the ducks literally quack me up! Shep was working on his dump truck and they all gathered around acting like they wanted catch a ride.

Even a hen decided to come over and check out what Shep was up too.

Yet another project on the books…the dog’s house. They will be comfortably nestled next to the chicken coop to keep watch…or so we think.

This Week’s Books

If you are looking for some Easter themed books for the kiddos, these were some very cute Easter reads. “Turkey’s Eggcellent Easter” was especially fun and cute. My personal fave was “Bunny Days”.

“Race From A to Z” was of course a fave for Shepard. Again for an Easter theme, the “Great Easter Egg Hunt” was an adorable read.

Gluten Free & Dairy Free Menu

  1. Chicken bacon ranch with lentil pasta and green beans.
  2. Buffalo chicken with riced cauliflower, tortilla chips, black beans, and tomato/cucumber salad.

Changing up the chicken bacon ranch once again…this time using lentil pasta. We love buffalo chicken and we love buffalo cauliflower, so I thought why not combine them together. Yum-o! The kiddos actually liked the buffalo chicken better this way. I think the cauliflower takes a little bit of the spicy side away. Regardless, they both ate it with much less complaint.

  1. Not so fancy sweet potato fries- sweet potato fries topped with ground turkey, guacamole, and black beans.
  2. Fancy fries – Yukon potato fries topped with grass-fed beef, green beans & bacon, tomatoes, pickled cucumbers, green onion, avocado, and Tessemae creamy ranch.

Who doesn’t love French fries smothered in goodness?! I thought I would recreate some healthier versions for my family this week. I highly recommend! This was super quick and simple to do. This might be my go-to when we start having T-ball practices and games.

Farm Animals

Feeding the ducks has definitely become a fun family affair. Ava has been excited about being able to feed all the different types of girls we have in our flock and Howard the drake. Some are more shy than others and she has managed to win them all over.

Scott won’t admit it, but he adores the ducks too. He even bragged about them on a conference call. Someone apologized on a zoom call for their dog barking and Scott obliged by letting them know he has ducks quacking in his background. I am pretty sure we have deciphered their quacking to mean “quack, quack…we wanna snack!”

After Scott and the kids fed them, guess who else they were looking for to give them a snack? #spoiled

In order to feed any other duck besides Big Bertha, she has to be distracted. She’s got moves and they are fast!

Louise, the silkie enjoyed some banana peel and green onion for her lunch. The other hens passed it up, so she scored big this time.

Fitness

Like my purple ankle weights? They double as a workout accessory and apparently a kid’s toy because mine won’t leave them alone. They find it so funny to walk around with these on. I found them on Amazon, but I chose this particular brand because I have seen them regularly appear on Cathe Friedrich’s videos. So, I figured they probably hold up pretty well and so far they have from my use and the kid’s playing with them. You can find them here. You can get them from 1lb to 2.5lbs. I decided to go with 2lbs. I had been using 1.5lbs ankle weights and that was challenging, so I thought I might work my way up gradually.

On Another Note…

We had the opportunity to do some more real estate photography this week. I believe this house was very special to the family and we were happy to be able to help it shine. You can check out all the photos of this adorable house here.

Have a fabulous week! God Bless!
