New babies on the farm! Meet Bo and Ellie, our 10 week old Great Pyrenees puppies. They are our new livestock guardians in training. We just love them! The kiddos enjoy playing tag and chase with them. Ava and Shep also like to strum their paw patrol guitar and sing them lullabies while they nap. It apparently works well as both puppies snore away to the melody. Ava says Ellie is her dog and Bo is Shep’s. That was kinda my intent and it seems to have worked out for the puppy and kiddo personality match. Ellie definitely has higher energy and likes to run just like Ava. Bo is very laid back and chill, so him and Shep will get along just fine.
Bo is on the left. We call him Bo Baby because he is precious. Ellie is on the right. We call her Ellie bear because she is very playful and definitely the dominant one between the two.
Bo Baby is so precious! I take advantage of picking him up now because that won’t be happening for too long as he grows. He is already over 20 pounds.
Shep getting to work on his excavator with his adorable shark gloves.
The kiddos always see me taking pictures and now they have an interest. They have been snapping pictures on the farm with their kid cameras. I will have to look through their cards to see what they have captured.
This Week’s Books
“Llama Llama Loose Tooth Drama” was a good introduction to losing teeth and the tooth fairy for Ava.
“The Bad Mood and the Stick” was a cute book about how a bad mood can spread. “Hog Wild” was a fun read for Scott and the kids. He read it while the kiddos danced to each song, so maybe not necessarily the best bedtime read.
“The Berenstain Bears and The Spooky Old Tree” was the favorite for the week. We even went exploring one evening looking for a spooky old tree to explore.
Gluten Free & Dairy Free Menu
- Zuppa Toscana soup.
- Skillet potatoes topped with turkey sausage gravy, butternut squash, and gala apples.
My new favorite soup is Zuppa Toscana. It is so yummy and definitely comfort food at it’s best when it is freezing cold outside! I tried turkey sausage gravy on top of potatoes instead of biscuits and I think I am digging that more so than the biscuits. This would also be a hearty breakfast.
- 3. Rice bowl with chicken, vegan queso, kale, and crushed tortilla chips.
- 4. Italian baked pork chops, mashed sweet potatoes, and butternut squash with bacon.
I think I might have found my new favorite winter rice bowl/salad combination. The vegan queso with the kale and rice is so yummy and a warm salad sounds much better right now than a cold salad. I tried Italian seasoned pork chops thinking the kids might go for that flavor instead of spicy. However, they requested ketchup to dip their pork chop in….so whatever. I just have to keep telling myself that someday….someday they will like my food.
Farm Animals
For a 3 legged kitty cat, Bonnie sure doesn’t act like she has any limitations. We call her the tiny tiger. She is always pouncing on something, climbing a tree, climbing the kids playground, sneaking into my car, the office or in the house.
The kiddos have been working on their “construction site” making dump truck roads. The hens have been very interested in their work. I would not be surprised to see a hen taking a ride in one of their dump trucks.
54 eggs donated to the blessing boxes this week!
Fitness
Our kiddos love games. We have practiced some yoga. I have a few yoga DVDs that we have done in the past that they like. I thought it might be more fun and motivating if we could make it a game. Thus, I found these yoga dice on Amazon and will try it out with them. It shows the poses with pictures on the dice, which I think will be fun. It might be somewhat advanced for Shep being 2. However, Ava loves to teach Shep how to do things and is pretty encouraging to him. Shep seems to receive her instruction well and I know he likes getting praise from her when he can do something new. So hopefully, this will be a win and a great way to keep them active without going out in the cold.
On Another Note…
How cute is the Nessie & Mamma ladle and colander spoon?! I spotted these in December while Christmas shopping for a dirty Santa gift and Scott took note and surprised me with an early birthday gift. I will have to fight the kids when I use them because they too were excited about them. It can be found here from Amazon. On the right is something Scott put in my stocking for Christmas. I thought I would share it because it has been a pretty handy kitchen tool. It is an herb stripper, but it can also be used on things like kale to take the leaves off the stem. I have used it mostly for parsley and cilantro and it has been great for cleaning the leafs off the stems. It is also relatively inexpensive at $5.99 for a pack of 3. You can find it here from Amazon.
This Week in the Shop..
I have some really cute small bags for sale in my Poshmark closet. Feel free to check them out here!
Stay warm and safe this week! God Bless!
